Leaving Europe: a new life in America

Europeana has launched the exhibition Leaving Europe: A new life in America along with the Digital Public Library of America, featuring several of Europeana’s partners as contributors, alongside major U.S. institutions.

Bruno Racine, the Chair of the Europeana Executive Committee, said in the press statement that he was delighted by the first joint initiative between the DPLA and Europeana. ‘We share common goals—the free circulation of ideas and knowledge, dedication to the public good—and we believe that the digital revolution opens up unprecedented possibilities for exchanges like this one.’

GLAM-WIKI: Wikimedia working with galleries, libraries, archives and museums to bring cultural content online

At the Europeana Conference / VI Congreso Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas, that took place last October in Burgos, Spain, Jonathan Purday talked about the GLAM, an innitiative of the Wikimedia Foundation. A project aimed to get a range of cultural institutions working together through what’s common to all of them: digital objects.

Take a look at the project, join it and share your digital objects with other cultural institutions.

Support the financing of Europeana and the European Digital Projects

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is specifically designed to promote growth, jobs and competitiveness through targeted infrastructure investment at European level. With a proposed budget of up to €50 billion between 2014-2020, it allocates €9.2 billion for broadband and e-services.

In the following weeks, Member States are expected to decide the EU’s budget for 2014-2020 and the permanence of the CEF as it was designed is not clear at all. There’s an initiative for supporting the maintenance of the project, you can read the declaration and sign it here.
