This week in Sister Libraries, we have an important announcement to do: a new region is joining in! It’s Scotland.

You’ll also find the activities designed  by four sister libraries: a couple of projects to bid farewell to the current year by the Allo Public Library (Spain) working with the Aleksandrow Public Library (Poland) and the activities scheduled for 2013 by the Salamanca Public Library “Torrente Ballester” and its Sister library, the Lousada Municipal Library in Portugal.

Portugal in Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation Survey

Portugal is one of the 18 EU countries which are participating in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation initiative: Cross European Survey to Measure Usersʹ perceptions of the Benefits of Information and Communication Technologies in Public Libraries.

This survey is intended to collect information that will help to undersatand the role public libraries play in contributing to the EUʹ policy objectives, particularly concerning the European Union 2020 Strategy, the Digital Agenda, and the Multiannual Financial Framework.

Summary of news on the Sister Libraries Programme

Last week in Sister Libraries Blog, Maria João Guerreiro from Portugal told us in a post that the sistership between Lousada Municipal Library (Portugal) and Salamanca Public Library “Torrente Ballester” (Spain) is proving very fruitful. And she explains the second visit they are swapping in the framework of their sistership, this time they are going to receive a visit from a Reader´s Group of Public Library Torrente Ballester the 16th and 17th of June.

Last week in Sister Libraries Blog there was more news about one sistership made some months ago. This time, Civic Library of Piran (Slovenia) explains some of the activities that they are developing with its two Portuguese Sister Libraries, as the exhibition of Portuguese poet Luis Vaz de Camoes when in Portugal the Portuguese National Day is celebrated.

Last week on the Sister Libraries Blog a post from Maria João Guerreiro from Direçao Geral do Livro e das Bibliotecas was published. It tells about one of the activities the sister libraries Lousada Municipal Library from Portugal and Salamanca Public Library “Torrente Ballester” from Spain have carried out on 4th and 5th of May.

Librarians from Lousada Municipal Library paid a visit to Torrente Ballester Library, and a poster and a text written by Rute Cunha, of Lousada Library, regarding this experience was created for the occasion. If you want see and read them, clik here.

Summary of news on the Sister Libraries Programme

Last week on Sister Libraries Blog we had very important news; it has been reached the amount of 20 sisterships in the Sister Libraries Programme!! The Aveiro Municipal Library from Portugal and the Regional Public Library in Krakow from Poland are the libraries with this honor.

Last week in Sister Libraries Blog there were important novelties! First of all, Valença Municipal Library from Portugal and Kuusamo City Library from Finland have decided to accomplish a sister relationship.

Furthermore, there is a new participating library in the Programme: Municipal Library Český Těšín from Czech Republic. And it has already found a sister library in Daruvar Public Library from Croatia. You can check all the sisterships made so far here.
