Summary of news on the Sister Libraries Programme

Last week on Sister Libraries Blog we had very important news; it has been reached the amount of 20 sisterships in the Sister Libraries Programme!! The Aveiro Municipal Library from Portugal and the Regional Public Library in Krakow from Poland are the libraries with this honor.

Last week on Sister Libraries Blog, Loly León, the Director of Arucas Municipal Library from Spain, told us that they had prepared a collective reading with its sister library the Municipal Piekary Slaskie Library in Poland, to mark the celebration of Book Day next 23th April.

Last week in Sister Libraries Blog, Aleksandra Zawalska-Hawel, Director Municipal Public Library in Piekary Śląskie, has sent us a post about the art competition for children to which she has invited their 5 sister libraries to participate in .

On the other hand, we had a new pair of sister libraries! Public Library “Fran Galovic” in Koprivnica from Croatia and Sastamala Public Library from Finland have decided to accomplish a sister partnership.

Summary of news on the Sister Library Programme

Last week in Sister Libraries Blog there were important novelties! First of all, Valença Municipal Library from Portugal and Kuusamo City Library from Finland have decided to accomplish a sister relationship.

Furthermore, there is a new participating library in the Programme: Municipal Library Český Těšín from Czech Republic. And it has already found a sister library in Daruvar Public Library from Croatia. You can check all the sisterships made so far here.

Last week in Sister Libraries Blog, we had a new participating library Utena A. and M. Miskiniai Public Library, that has submitted its form and photos to the blog and it is the third Lithuanian library looking for a sister.

And, on the other hand, we had a new match! Ljubljana City Library from Slovenia and the Regional Public Library Krakow from Poland have decided to accomplish a sister partnership.

The Library Day in the Life Project

The Library Day in the Life Project is a semi-annual event coordinated by Bobbi Newman. She is also a coordinator of a newly launched project This is What a Librarian Looks Like. Twice a year librarians, library staff and also LIS student from all over the globe are invited to share a day (or week) in the library. January 30th through February 5th 2012 more than 360 librarians from the United States of America, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Serbia, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Israel, Mongolia, Singapore and New Zealand participated in the Round 8.

Also 30 Latvian librarians and LIS students participated in this project. They represented twenty public, one academic, one school and one institutional library. Three social media were used to describe their day in the library –Twitter, Blogger and social network Draugiem.lv (‘For Friends’).

Summary of news in the Sister Libraries Programme

We had three novelties on the blog during the previous week. Firstly, Marines Library “Josefina Escrig” from Spain has sent some pictures of its facilities so that we know them a little better.

Secondly, Krapina Public Library from Croatia has sent a piece of information about the first experiences with its sister libraries, consisting of providing information about the town of Krapina, its history and monuments of culture for library users in Tielt-Winge (Belgium) and Sant Joan de Vilatorrada (Spain).

Finally, there is a new sistership in the Programme between Gustavo Pinto Lopes Public Library, in Torres Novas, Portugal, and Ciudad Real State Public Library from Spain. They will work together in areas such reading promotion, volunteer work, local history and digital resources. Personal contacts, between the staff through technical visits to both premises, are also accorded.

Spanish Blog: “Intercultural and Accesible Libraries”

This time we are informing you of the creation of a new Spanish blog, Bibliotecas Interculturales y Accesibles (Intercultural and Accesible Libraries).

The blog, in Spanish, aims to be a useful tool for librarians, gathering and disseminating not only the work of the Group itself, but all types of resources, documents, papers, conferences, etc. regarding these two themes.

Logo Consejo de Cooperación BibliotecariaIt is created and written by the Working Group of Interculturalism and Accesibility in Libraries, that belongs to the Spanish Council for Library Cooperation. You can read more about its objectives in the links aforementioned (translated into English).
