NAPLE’s Annual Assembly has taken place in Milan. In the next weeks we’ll be posting the presentations from the different speakers.

The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has published a discussion paper under the title The Future of the Profession, intended to provoke discussion across the sector on the matter. They have created a wiki for everyone who wants to participate to edit and change the paper (the Word document) and return it to advocacy@alia.org.au

EIFL-IP and the Estonia’s new copyright bill

EIFL-IP has worked with the National Library of Estonia, the Consortium of Estonian Libraries Network (ELNET) and the Estonian Librarians Association to actively engage libraries in the planned new copyright law of Estonia, that is expected by September 2014.

They have worked in a plan for actively engage libraries in the copyright law, and to inform the general public about emerging copyright issues that libraries face everyday, such as the lending of e-books.

SPARC Europe Open Session

The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) will celebrate a session on the pre-LIBER Conference Tuesday June 25^th in Munich, Germany in which open access will be discussed.

Though the session will have a perspective from University and Research libraries’ point of view, Open Access can also be implemented in Public Libraries to maximize the resources and add new functionality to our catalogs.

Get Online Week 2013

Nearly half of the European labour force (47%) is not confident their computer and internet skills are sufficient in today’s labour market, while the demand for employees with ICT skills is growing considerably, by around 3% a year. By 2015, 900.000 ICT job vacancies are forecasted to remain unfilled.

The Europe-wide Get Online Week campaign, organized in 26 countries between 18 and 24 March 2013, highlighted the essential role ICT skills play in today’s society and focused on encouraging young people to take up a career in ICT.
